Janis von Jever German Shepherd Dog Adult Female in Dockweiler, California

My story
Janis von Jever is a gorgeous 4-5 year old German Shepherd.

Janis is an extremely bright beauty who is very loving and eager to please. She loves all the petting and attention she can get and, though quite treat-motivated, she takes treats gently. She knows sit and down and is ready and willing to learn anything else that will win your approval. Janis is delightful on a walk. She starts out happy and ready to take her place at heel position and she is comfortable walking next to a group of other mid and large-size dogs (she's not for small dogs or cats). In playgroup, off-leash, she calmly explores the interesting environment and politely greets the other dogs. Although she does mingle some while avoiding the pushier dogs, she prefers the company of the humans in the yard. Janis attaches quickly, so if you bring this intelligent, loving girl into your home she will become your shadow and affectionate companion.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Janis von Jever, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
